George Steven Elbert was born on 31 January 1942.

On 17 April 1968, Specialist Four George Steven Elbert was serving with Headquarters & Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 47th Infantry, 9th Infantry Division, in Dinh Tuong Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, SP4 Elbert was killed in action when he sustained multiple fragmentation wounds. His body was recovered.
