Edwin Lamar "Ed" Dennis, Jr.

Edwin Lamar Dennis, Jr. was born in 1926.
Ed had a distinguished Navy career that spanned 26 years. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1949 and retired in 1970. His Naval career was highlighted by his flying days as a Naval Aviator jet interceptor pilot. He was attached to Fighter Squadrons VF171 and VF174, known as the Hell Razors.
He pursued a second career teaching mathematics at Kempsville Junior High School for 21 years. Ed was a loving spouse, father, grandfather, friend, and patriot. He was a man of great integrity and strength - always gentle, generous, and with faith in God and family.
Ed is survived by: his wife of 62 years, Carolyn Libby Dennis; two daughters, Adele Kirby and husband, Bill of Chandler, AZ; and Laura Schmidt and husband, Jack, of Kailua, HI; three granddaughters, Jennifer Miller and husband, Jeff of Seattle, WA; Courtney Dahlgren and husband, Eric of Bellingham, WA; and Jessica Schmidt of Seattle, WA. His only grandson, Christopher White, preceded him in death.
His cremains were placed in the U.S. Naval Academy's Columbarium on 26 October 2012.

Commander Dennis died on 27 August 2012 in Virginia Beach, VA.
