Clarence Leonard Tinker Sr. United States Army major general who last served as commander of the Seventh Air Force until his untimely death in 1942 during the Battle of Midway. Major General Tinker was the highest Native-American (Osage) officer in the Army and the first to achieve the rank of major general. He was also the first general officer (and second flag officer) to be killed in World War II. He is the namesake of Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. |
