Biography:

Walter was the son of Dr. William Peltz and Laura Estelle Downs Simon who married in 1917. Walter was the elder brother of a sister, Dorothy Louise Simon.

He graduated from Edward C. Knight High School class of 1937 in Collingsworth, NJ. He was employed by the RCA Victor Corp., prior to enlisting in the service. Walter enlisted in the US Navy (NSN: 243-78-94) on 16 Oct 1940. Apprentice Seaman Simon reported on board the USS Arizona for duty on 10 Dec 1940. He was advanced in rate to S2c then Seaman First class by Sept 1941. He was killed in action on 07 Dec 1941.

S1c Simon was awarded (posthumously) the Purple Heart, American Defense Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with one bronze battle star, Combat Action Ribbon (eligible), and the World War II Victory Medal.
